Abuja – The body of State Statisticians-General on Monday advocated the establishment of Bureau of Statistics in states without them for better coordination of statistical system in the country.
Mr Solomon Ettah, the Cross River Statistician-General, who spoke on behalf of the body, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Ettah said that 21 of the 36 states had established Bureaus of statistics, adding that the body was inaugurated at the 2015 Forum of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics (NCCS) held in Kaduna.
He said it was inaugurated on Dec. 4 to foster the development and production of statistical services across the country.
“We are going to act as a feeder to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) to support statistical production in Nigeria.
“There are some states that statistical development is lacking; the body will take step to address the issue in those states.
“Also, we will work to harmonise statistical information based on international best practices,’’ the Statistician-General said.
Ettah said that body would collaborate with the NBS, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Ministry of Finance to address paucity of fund in the sector.

NAN, however, learnt that the Statistician-General of theannounced Dr Yemi Kale, had announced a quarterly meeting between the NBS and body of State Statistician-General from 2016.
According to him, the meeting will help to address the challenge of duplication of data and ensure consistent methodology in data gathering and dissemination. (NAN)
