Nigeria’s first game at the Brazil 2014 World Cup against Iran will be handled by Carlos Vera , a referee from Ecuador FIFA has announced.
Vera is indeed an experienced hand having overseen international matches since 2007 and has officiated at several CONMEBOL competitions, including the Copa America 2011 and the Copa Libertadores since 2008, as well as at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2012.
With questionable decisions being the hallmark in Brazil thus far, Nigeria will hope they are not at the end of any faulty calls from the Ecuadorian ref that would handle Monday’s game.
On his part, Vera who will be 38 years, nine days after his assignment in the Nigeria-Iran game will be keen to repay the faith reposed in him by the world football governing body.
Aside naming the referee for the Nigeria-Iran duel, FIFA has also announced that Milorad Mazic from Serbia will be the man to handle the Germany-Portugal fixture.
Meanwhile the match between Ghana and USA which is the second match in Natal will be overseen by Jonas Eriksson, 40, from Sweden.
