Jos – The UN Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday commenced the training of 500 youths from Yobe, Adamawa and Borno in various skills acquisition in Jos.
Dr Takwa Zebulon, the Director, Peace and Development Advisor, UNDP, said this at the opening ceremony of the orientation programme for beneficiaries of the UNDP-led livelihood support programme in Jos.
He disclosed that aside the skills acquisition training, the two weeks orientation programme would also entail mental training, leadership and civic education, conflict prevention and peace building.
“The training also has the business management skills training which entails training in book keeping and accounting and psycho-social and trauma counselling.
“Which will help you become successful business operators and peace ambassadors within your communities,” he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said that UNDP had stepped up its efforts in alleviating the plights of the people in the region by investing in the young people.
Zebulon said that other alleviation measures taken up by the UNDP to alleviate the plight of the youths include provision of livelihoods support to women and youths.
Others are provision of agro-processing equipment support for 1,400 IDP households in Adamawa and Borno through the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
He disclosed that the UNDP had just completed a debris assessment to ascertain the level of damage and plan appropriately for the mobilisation of support for the various communities.
He enjoined all the trainees to ensure that they make good use of the opportunity and be determined to improve their standards of living. (NAN)
