Abuja – Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, has urged all road users to obey traffic rules and regulations and avoid acts capable of undermining safety.
Oyeyemi made the call after reviewing the operational strategies of the Enugu sector, according to a statement by Mr Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and Strategy in Abuja on Monday
The statement restated the commitment of FRSC to creating safer roads in the country, noting that adequate personnel and logistics would continue to be the mode of ensuring success.
It said the corps marshal was satisfied with the operational strategy of the Enugu sector aimed at ensuring hitch-free movement during the Yuletide.
“The corps marshal also commended staff of the sector for their commitment to duty, adding that the management would continue to enunciate policies that could adequately address staff welfare.
David Mendie, Sector Commander, FRSC Enugu, said the sector had put all necessary measures in place to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state and its environs.
Mendie said this was in concert with the State Government.
He said the interest being shown by the state government to ensure efficient traffic management particularly along the 9th Mile, was encouraging.
The commander said that a special committee under a commissioner had been constituted and inaugurated by the Governor.
Mendie said the membership was drawn from stakeholders, the Nigerian Army, Police and Civil Defence Corps.

He stated that 13 flashpoints had been identified within the state capital where efforts would be concentrated by the commission during the peak period to prevent gridlock.
Similarly, the Unit Commander, Nsukka command of the FRSC, Mr Shuaibu Bello, said the command adequately mobilised for the task of containing the perennial road obstruction and crashes in the area.
He noted that staff and relevant stakeholders had been well engaged for the yuletide, saying tipper drivers within the area had been assisting the command to fill some deep potholes.
Bello added that Rotary Club had erected traffic signs at some strategic locations to warn travellers of the dangers ahead.
