Akure – The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has tasked parents of pupils in all public schools in the state to allow their children to face their academic activities.
The Chairman of SUBEB, Mr Rotimi Olasogba, said this on Monday in Akure, Ondo State, after he had monitored resumption of the second term in the 2015/2016 academic sessions in some schools.
He frowned at the attitude of some parents who did not release their children to come to school on the resumption day.
Olasogba said that parents and guardians should ensure their children and wards’ punctuality in their various schools.
“It is unfortunate that the turn-out of the pupils is low as they resume for the second term of the 2015/2016 academic session.
“But the attendance of teachers is encouraging and it is evident that they are ready to work by what we have seen.
“The teachers’ readiness to work is highly impressive despite all their challenges.
“Parents should discourage their children from going to farms and engaging in business activities during school hours but encourage them to come to schools,” he said.
Olasogba charged the teachers to put in their best to turn their societies around for good.
He advised the head teachers of public schools to mobilise parents in their areas through `House to House’ orientation on the need to embrace punctuality for their children.
Olasogba urged the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to do more in ensuring that education was taken to the 21 Century standard by being keen in improving the standards of educational.
The chairman noted that all lands belonging to the public schools but being encroached upon by individuals would be looked into, promising that government would come out with firm decisions on it.
He urged school managements to keep their environments clean so that fire emanating from bush-burning would not have effect on their buildings.

The schools visited are : L.A Primary School, Idanre, Saint James’ Primary School, Oda, St. David Anglican School, Akure; SUBEB Model Primary School, Akure and Saint Patrick’s Aponmu.
Others are; All Saints Mega Primary School, Akure; Dayo Jegele Primary School, Igoba and L.A Primary School, Owode-Araromi. (NAN)
