AWKA – A factional Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra, Mr Obiora Igwedibia, has said that the rescheduled congress of the party which produced him on May 9 was in order.
Igwedibia told newsmen in Awka on Wednesday that the national leadership of the party saw the level of complaints from the earlier exercise and set a up a nine-man committee to investigate the complaint and make a report.
He said it was on the basis of their report and recommendations that it reconstituted a new state congress committee which conducted the exercise according to the party’s rule with full media coverage and observation by relevant agencies.
The chairman dismissed the statement of the South East zonal leadership of the party which purportedly distanced itself from the repeated congress.
Igwedibia pointed out that the statement was an affront on the position of the national secretariat of the party.
“I would not have bothered to respond to the comments by Chief Osita Okechukwu but the truth is that as much as I know, he does not have the power to speak on what happens in Anambra APC when he is in Enugu.
“The national secretariat of the party in its wisdom called for a repeat of the congress, constituted a committee through the National Congress Supervisory Committee and monitored the process. His comment is an affront to the party,’’ he said.
The chairman appealed to the leaders of the party in Anambra to unite for the common good of the party and the people of the state, especially as the 2015 general elections beckoned.
He also thanked the national leadership of the party for intervening to save the state branch and pledged to work for its fortune.
A faction of the party led by Sen. Chris Ngige had on April 26 conducted similar congress which produced Chief Emeka Ibe as its chairman. (NAN)
