BIRNIN KEBBI – The Kebbi State Government has prepared 2,000 hectares of farmland to enable displaced persons to engage in farming in Bagudo Local Government Area.
Alhaji Sanusi Katune, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
Citizens living on land along the Nigeria/Benin Republic border were resettled due to clashes with their neighbours.
Katune, who did not disclose the number of beneficiaries, said the cleared farmland was taken from the 57,643 hectares of forest reserve in the area.
He said the state government had provided the resettled persons with amenities that included houses, clinics and schools at Mahuta and Unguwar-Isa.
Katune urged the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the farmland in order to improve their economic status.
He advised the community leaders to seek support from the Ministry of Agriculture, to ensure they harvested abundant food crops. (NAN)
