LAGOS – The All Peoples Congress (APC) Women Wing on Tuesday demanded the release and safe return of the over 200 girls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State abducted on April 14.
They made the call during a rally led by Sen. Oluremi Tinubu in Lagos where they also called for a judicial inquiry into the abduction.
The women, numbering over 2000, stormed the Lagos State Government Secretariat in Ikeja to drop their protest letter for onward passage to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Among the protesters were Mrs Funmi Tejuosho, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly; Mrs Abba Folawiyo and Mrs Kemi Nelson, the APC Lagos State Women Leader.
Reading the letter on behalf of the group, Nelson said the inquiry should be done with a view to exposing any hidden acts of conspiracy, negligence and incompetence surrounding the abduction.
“Today is 30 days since the girls were missing. We feel for them and are in absolute empathy with their families,” she said.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Mr Lateef Ibirogba, who received the women on behalf of Gov. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), assured that their letter would be delivered to the appropriate quarters.
“I will deliver your letter to the governor, who will in turn deliver it to Mr President,’’ he said. (NAN)
