Chairman appeals to Jigawa Govt. to assist sickle cell patients

Dutse  – The Chairman of Sickle Cell Patients in Jigawa, Abubakar Abdullahi, has pleaded with the state government, corporate organisations, individuals, as well as emirs to assist people suffering from the ailment.

Abdullahi made the appeal at a news conference in Dutse on Thursday.

He said people suffering from the disorder experienced untold hardships in the state, considering its high cost of treatment.

The chairman also urged the state government to assist them through enlightenment programmes so that people would make informed choices when getting marriage.

According to him, the lack of assistance to patients who cannot afford treatment makes some of them to even become paralysed or have liver or kidney problem, while some even become mad.

Abdullahi, therefore, urged the state government to intervene and assist the patients with the drugs, saying “there are many terrible sickle cell anemia cases in the villages as sufferers cannot afford the drugs, which eventually lead to other complications.
