Abuja – Prof. Mike Kwanashie, the Vice-Chancellor, Veritas University, Abuja, has warned new students of the institution against indulging in cultism, alcohol intake, smoking, examination malpractice, among other vices.
Kwanashie, who gave the warning at the 8th matriculation of the university on Friday, said students who engaged in cult related activities would be expelled.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 452 students participated in the ceremony.
“We are committed to making sure that you are in a university where your voice will be heard, where you will feel part of ownership.
“Our social life is not boring but must be done as if you were in the presence of God; if social life means smoking and alcohol, it is not acceptable here.
“We do not tolerate cultism, examination malpractices, dishonesty and smoking; cultism is direct expulsion.
“For examination malpractice, the affected student will lose one session but if there is a repeat occurrence, the student will go.’’
According to him, students can go to town with permission but are not allowed to sleep in town.
He said that the school was 100 per cent residential, adding that the institution had a counselling unit that guided students on proper behaviour.
Kwanashie said that students of Veritas were equipped to have complementary qualifications before leaving.

“We make sure the students do not leave without getting a certification; we have CISCO academy here and we make sure our students are CISCO certified irrespective of their disciplines.
“We are working on getting a Microsoft academy so that our students will get Microsoft certification.
“Apart from the degrees, our students get other competences and entrepreneurial skills to enable them to be self-reliant after graduation,’’ he said.
The vice-chancellor said that the school had a placement office that scouted for jobs and linked graduates to organisations and employers. (NAN)
