ENUGU – Enugu Police Command on Sunday emerged champion of the Zone 9 Police Games with 55 gold, 14 silver and nine bronze medals after the finals of the Game’s football match at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that zone 9 is made up of four state police commands, Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo.
Imo Police Command came second with 24 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Abia placed third with 20 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, followed by Anambra Police Command with 15 gold, 14 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Reacting, the Enugu Police Command Sports Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said that the one week tournament had thrilled the people of coal city and its environs.
Amaraizu, who is also the Local Organising Coordinator for the Games, said that it had helped the command to discover talents to be nurtured to bring more glory to sports in the country.
He said that there was no doubt that zone 9 would be represented by talented sportsmen and women during the National Police Games March 17 to March 28 at the National Stadium, Abuja.
However, in the final of the football match, Enugu Police Command defeated Imo 2-0 with the goals coming in the 28th and 58th minutes respectively.
NAN recalls that no fewer than 16 sporting activities were featured in the competition. (NAN)
