Lagos – The National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) has urged indebted clubs in the leagues to clear their debts to players and coaches before the new season.

A statement by NANPF on Thursday said that it had observed that some clubs that owed players were already buying new players.
“We are surprised that the affected clubs have not made substantial efforts to liquidate the debts.
“Most of them have gone ahead with the business of buying and selling players, while disregarding the decision of the players’ status committee,” the statement said.
The union commended the efforts of the Nigeria Football Federation and the League Management Company (LMC) in ensuring that clubs honour their contractual obligations to players and coaches.
“We recognise and commend the effort of the LMC, following personal meetings with union officials to resolve clubs’ indebtedness to players and coaches,” it said.
The statement said that the NANPF had appealed to the affected clubs to do the needful for the sake of peace and harmony in the league.
The 2015/2016 league season will kick-off on Feb. 26. (NAN)
