Port Harcourt – Joshua Kio, a former triple and long jump national champion, says potential talents have been identified at the ongoing maiden Go Round/SWAN athletics championships for secondary schools in Rivers.
Kio, the Head of Technical Sub-Committee of the championships, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that he was impressed with the performances of the students.
“Although, this is the maiden championships, the students have impressed me. The triple and long jump events for boys and girls have been interesting.
“I have seen talents among the students and I believe that if
properly groomed, they will be future national champions and even world beaters,’’ he said.
Kio commended Felix Obuah, the sponsor of the championships for
reviving athletics in the state, especially for boys and girls in
secondary schools.
“I am particular about long and triple jump because there is likelihood that in future championships, there are

He said that he was also overwhelmed with the enthusiasm to excel exhibited by the students.
