Lagos – Chief Coach of Kano Pillars Mohammed Baba-Ganaru on Tuesday said that his team’s only target was to win the league, an aim which had been communicated to the players.
Baba-Ganaru told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone in Lagos that his team was well prepared and motivated for challenges ahead of the team.
NAN reports that Kano Pillars opened their campaign in the premier league with a hard fought 2 -1 victory over visiting Enugu Rangers at the Sanni Abacha Stadium in Kano.
A stoppage time goal from Prince Aggrey, gave the Kano boys victory over Rangers after conceding an early goal from Madu Christian before Gambo Mohammed levelled for Pillars.
The versatile coach, who won back-to-back the league trophy for Kano Pillars in 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons, said the team was a reputable winner.
He said that though Sunday’s match was difficult, the game would not be enough to judge other performances of the team in the future.
“Kano Pillars are too big to play second fiddle; we are already used to winning the league. We are in the competition to win, anything short of that is failure.
“The league is just starting and it is not just about a match, we are talking about 37 matches to play; so, I will not judge with that.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The match on Sunday was a difficult one but I am happy that we fought back to win,’’ he said.
Baba-Ganaru said that the away wins recorded in the league matches should not be seen as strange thing, according to him, away wins are common in any well-organised league.
“The results across the centres seem a new thing to Nigerian football but not new in international competitions and, most especially the European leagues.
“In European League, you can go anywhere to win or draw. But now that the teams are getting away wins in Nigeria, it is a welcome development in our football.
“My players are ready to replicate this because the players are well motivated to do that.
“The state government is strongly behind us to achieve this target,’’ he said. (NAN)
