ABIDJAN – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved 46.3 million dollars to support post-election conflict reintegration programmes in Cote d’Ivoire.
This is contained in a statement from the bank, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abidjan.
The statement said that the fund would be used to support the social and economic reintegration of ex-combatants, the resolution of land conflicts and assistance to victims of the post-election violence.
It said that the fund being granted under AfDB’s Social Inclusion and Cohesion Enhancement Support Programme (PARICS) would be used to implement programmes that would span from 2014 to 2015.
According to the statement, it will enable social and economic integration of some 15,500 ex-combatants.
The statement said no fewer than 2,000 women would also be reintegrated into profitable economic activities, adding, “several land related disputes will also be settled to ensure harmony’’.
“Other objective is to strengthen the capacity of institutions directly involved in peace, reintegration and social cohesion in the country during the period.
“Looking at the violence that rocked the country, the programmes to be supported by the fund will enthrone peace, reconciliation and stability,’’ the statement said.
Cote d’Ivoire has since the end of the post-election violence established institutions and implemented several programmes to enthrone peace and reconciliation.(NAN)
