Lafia – The Nasarawa State Government has earmarked N60 million for the rehabilitation of the workers’ housing estate in Lafia, Gov. Umaru Al-Makura said on Wednesday in Lafia.
The governor said that a committee, comprising the Secretary to the State Government, State Head of Service, Commissioners for Finance, Works and Housing, and Transport, among others would handle the project.
Al-Makura spoke when he received the report of the recent biometric data capture exercise for civil servants and pensioners.
According to the governor, representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) would also be part of the committee.
He said the gesture was part of the administration’s policy aimed at boosting the morale of workers.
Al-Makura noted that some of the 500 housing units were not habitable and needed rehabilitation.
Al-Makura also said that henceforth, all staff promotions in the state would only be effected after conducting examination for workers.
“Promotions will be examination-driven in order to build capacity for competent and effective delivery in the state,” he said.
He assured that the government would continue to implement policies that would better the lots of workers in the state. (NAN)
