Abuja – A Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old applicant, Samuel Joseph, to two months imprisonment for assault and stealing.
The Magistrate, Fatima Bukar, who sentenced Joseph after he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, gave him an option to pay N10,000 fine.
“You are hereby convicted and sentenced to two months in prison for assault and stealing,’’ she said.
Joseph of Daki biyu, Abuja, had before his sentence, appealed to the court to forgive him because he regretted his actions.
The Prosecutor, Urom Otu, told the court that Francisca Jeffery of Jabi, Abuja, reported the case at the Jabi Police Station on March 25.
He said that on same day at 7 p.m. when the complainant was on her way to buy drugs at the pharmacy at Jabi the convict attack her and sole her money.
Otu said that the complainant told the convict that she was a student and therefore had no money.
He said that the convict then became angry and forcefully put his hand into the complainant’s pocket and took N3,500 and a mobile phone worth N28,000 and ran away.
The prosecutor said that the complainant shouts for help attracted some people nearby to the scene who pursued the convict and caught him.
He said that in the struggle, the convict bit the complainant’s right index finger but the people overpowered the convict and the money and the phone were recovered. (NAN)
