Imo assembly adopts motion against neglect in NDDC appointments

Owerri  –   The Imo assembly has called on the state’s caucus at the National Assembly to draw government’s attention to their exclusion in appointments into the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

In a motion, Mr Henry Ezediaro (APC-Oguta) also lamented that the state had been short-changed by the NDDC in citing development infrastructure.

Ezediaro said that the law guiding the appointment of a managing director of the NDDC provides for rotation among the nine oil producing states.

“While the other states, apart from Edo, had headed the commission, Imo is yet to produce a managing director.

“Some of the other oil producing states have taken the position of the managing director of the commission more than once.

“I wish to urge the representatives of the state in the National Assembly to draw the attention of the president to this and ensure that Imo produces the next substantive managing director,’’ he said.

Supporting the motion, Dr Uche Oguwuike said that the law establishing the NDDC made copious provisions for even distribution of appointments in line with the federal character concept.

“This guidelines should be strictly adhered to for the sake of equity,’’ Oguwuike said.

Following a unanimous vote in favour of the motion, the Speaker, Mr Acho Ihim (APC-Okigwe) directed the clerk of the assembly to write to the state representatives at the National Assembly for the desired action. (NAN)
