ABUJA – Mr Tunde Ayelabola, Deputy National Secretary, Labour Party (LP), said the outcome of the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti was a reflection of the people’s wishes.
Ayelabola said this in Abuja on Sunday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to him, the people of Ekiti came out in large numbers to perform their constitutional right during the exercise.
“The turnout of people during the election clearly showed that the people were anxious to take their destiny in their hands.
“The election was said to be free, fair and transparent across the state, and majority of the electorate came out in jubilation when the result was announced.
“In previous elections, people went on rampage when the results were announced but in this election, the whole state was in jubilation over the announcement.
“It was a reflection of people’s aspirations, and I think the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be commended for this election because of the way it conducted the election,” he said.
The LP scribe urged the governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose, to deliver on his promises to the people, saying “politics should be seen beyond election; it should include delivering on the promises to develop the state”.
He also advised other political parties which took part in the election to continue with their efforts to sensitise the people to their programmes so that they could be acceptable to the electorate.
NAN recalls that Mr Ayodele Fayose of PDP defeated inbumbet Gov Kayode Fayemi of APC, among other candidates that partook in the poll.(NAN).
