Plateau to enact laws to regulate building construction–Gov. Lalong

Jos –  Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau said on Wednesday in Jos that the state would enact laws to regulate the construction of houses in order to reduce the high incidence of building collapse.

He spoke when he received members of the National Institute of Town Planners, led by the acting President, Mr Bulus Achi in his office.
The governor stressed that the laws would ensure safety standards that would reduce the high incidence of building collapse as witnessed in recent times.

Achi in his remarks said that Plateau was one of the states yet to have town planning laws, adding that “urban and regional planning laws guide the development of lands in the country.’’

According to him, Plateau was lagging behind in terms of town planners and urged the government to encourage the training of more town planners.

Achi stated that the standard practice was one planner to 10,000 people, but Plateau has one planner to 30,000 people.

Achi said that they were in the state for a Mandatory Continuous Professional Development Programme.(NAN)
