LAGOS – A 30-year-old sales representative, James Friday, who allegedly stole N1.88million from his employer, on Thursday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Friday, who resides at the Olodi-Apapa area of Apapa, Lagos is facing a two-count charge of stealing and fraudulent false accounting.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 30 at No. 392, Ojo Road, Abule Ado Bus-Stop, Satellite Town, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole N1.88million, property of Ultra Trade Company Nigeria Ltd. [eap_ad_1] “Friday altered a bank teller with N3.62million and changed it to N1.74million and absconded with the remaining N1.88million,” the prosecutor said.
Iberedem said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 335 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Section 335 prescribes seven years imprisonment for fraudulent accounting, while Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
