Dutse – The Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN), a DFID programme, on Tuesday said it had spent N500 million to support education sector in Jigawa between 2009 and to date.
The Team Leader of the programme in the state, Mr Hezekiah Odeyale, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Odeyale, who was in the state for a two-day workshop for education secretaries, said the money was spent on teachers’ training, purchase of teaching and learning materials and distribution of school uniforms
He said ESSPIN had also provided boreholes and toilet facilities to some schools within the period, adding that the partnership with the state government to develop education had impacted positively on teachers.
He, however, said that many stakeholders that participated in the training programme had retired from active service, hence the need to train others in the sector.
The team leader said that after the workshop in Dutse, participants would visit some selected schools in the state to enable know the areas that needed further support.(NAN)
