Abuja – A cross-section of football stakeholders on Wednesday in Abuja advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to secure stronger teams to play against the Super Eagles in friendly matches.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Super Eagles beat Mali 1-0 in Rouen, France on Friday and Luxembourg 3-1 in Luxembourg City on Tuesday in international friendlies.
Some of the fans however told NAN that in spite of the victories by the senior national male football team, the team still needed to do more.
Dapo Ajibade, the Executive Manager, Rising Stars Academy of Ondo, said the NFF should go for teams which have made names for themselves in football.
“We should meet teams which are likely to defeat us. We should play teams like England, Spain and Brazil, not teams we can beat so that we will be celebrated.
“It is better we lose all our friendly matches and win all our championship matches than to win all friendly matches and lose championship matches,’’ he said.
Ajibade also frowned at why the match should be played outside Nigeria, adding that it would have been better for the Super Eagles to defeat Luxembourg in any of the cities.
“I expected that some of these matches should be brought to Nigeria. It would have been a good thing for Luxembourg to have lost to Nigeria in any of the cities in Nigeria.
“This will help in awakening the Eagles’ spirit. As much as I commend the initiative of the NFF, we must know that football must be reactivated back home,’’ he said.
Mawa Mohammed, the Manager of Flash Flamingos FC of Gombe, appreciated the players’ performance, but insisted that they needed to meet stronger teams.
Mohammed said meeting stronger teams would help to build a better and viable team for the future.(NAN)
