Emmanuel told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, that the data centre would enable the service meet and comply with international best practices.
According to him, the documentation process for the centre began in 2012 and it contains only records of fire outbreak from the year 2000.
“The process of accumulating the nationwide data of the service began since but it has not been an easy process.
“We have sent forms with a format to all the state fire services to fill in information based on records they have kept since 2000 and based on this we have been able to gather a lot of information to go into the data base.
“The documentation is an ongoing process and it is being concluded, the only data remaining is that of 2013.
“We have sent reports to state services to send the data but only about 11 out of the 36 states have responded,’’ he said.
The fire controller said the centre would be located at the headquarters of the service, Abuja and a portal had been developed to accommodate the information.

Emmanuel highlighted the importance of maintaining a valid data centre in the country, saying that it would support “national development’’.
He said a national data centre would accord the service recognition in Geneva-based World Fire Statistics Centre.
According to him, the service had identified three main causes of fire disasters in the country, including carelessness, accident and bomb blast or arson.
“Most fire disasters are man-made; some are caused by accidents and thunderstorm while others are caused by explosion or bomb blast which is mostly intentional.’’
He pledged that the agency would continue to educate the public on the importance of knowing the provisions of the fire safety code.
He warned that the service would soon commence strict enforcement of the provisions of the code, including sealing-off public buildings without safety designs like emergency exits. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
