Coach wants baseball federation to associate with sport ministry

Lagos  –    Jide Abidoye, a former national baseball coach, has urged the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation (NBSF) to associate with the sport ministry to enjoy the benefits that will come from it.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sport was introduced into the country in 1987 by retired Gen. Ishola Williams, William Boyd, Ndidi Onyiuke-Okereke among others.

Abidoye stressed that affiliation would enable the sport to enjoy the full complements of the accruable benefits from the sports ministry.

“We have a lot to benefit, there are some subventions that come into other sport associations in Nigeria, that we are not being given.

“As a sport, we went to two All Africa Games and we came home with silver, even with football we know how many gold they have won for Nigeria.

“Basketball, handball, volleyball they are team sports too, so we have an advantage by staying, working and having a liaising officer with the sport ministry.

“ I don’t think we need to be an island, the advantage there out-number the disadvantage.’’

He, however, urged all stakeholders to support the NBSA to achieve its set objectives. (NAN)
