In a statement released by the company, it said: “We use the most advanced German engineered solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and employ German engineering excellence to ensure long lasting and robust electricity generation – guaranteed for 25 years. We train and employ local people. Our preferred technology partners are Madsar PV who are amongst the World’s most advanced ‘thin film’ PV panels manufacturers.
“Our team has developed more than 500MWp’s of Solar Farms in nine countries in Europe and Africa. Geographically we are presently focused on Nigeria. However, we will expand our operations throughout sub Saharan Africa.”
The company said its mission is to: “transform the lives of millions of Nigerians through providing more than 1000 megawatts of electricity from our solar farms in Nigeria by 2017.”
The proposed solar farms will be situated in Kastina State. The plant is expected to provide power to over 1.5 million Nigerians in the region. The project is also expected to generate close to 100,000 jobs.
Pan African Solar is owned Masdar, a Mubadala company. Masdar is the parent company that focuses more on power generation via renewable energy.
Nigeria has over decades been facing epileptic power supply due to a clumsy and rusty power sector. The country has not been able to fully diversify its power sources. Gas-powered electricity has not been managed properly as militant attacks in the Niger Delta wreaks havoc that has plunged the country into further blackout.
