Kuje – The Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday embarked on the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads to ease the movement of goods and services in the area.
The Chairman of the Council, Mr Abdulahi Galadima, who launched the project, said it was in fulfilment of the council`s social responsibility to the people.
He added that it was also to ensure a clean environment and to ease the difficulties faced by motorists in the area.
“Without good roads there can’t be development in any community, especially areas with signifiicant commercial activities.
“One of my major campaign promises was to provide social services to the people and ensure that the environment was kept clean at all times.
“Kuje Area Council has ample investment opportunities and it is necessary to ensure that the environment is conducive for investors.
“When you have good road network, it opens doors for industrialists and investors, particularly those interested in tourist resorts and recreational centres.”
Galadima said that the council had the highest landmass in the FCT, suitable for siting any kind of industry.
He stressed that as a developing area council with the daily influx of people and new businesses springing up, development in the area would remain a mirage without a good road network.
He, however, said that though his administration inherited huge liabilities, it would do everything possible to ensure the development of the area council.
Meanwhile the Kuje Area Council Environmental Department has embarked on the evacuation of drains and waste in the area.
The Head of the department, Mr Abdulakareem Abdulrazaq, said the exercise was to keep the environment clean and free from communicable diseases.
“The waste and drains evacuation is a normal routine exercise by the department to ensure that Kuje is kept clean at all times,’’ he said.
He, however, said that the major challenge of the department was the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by some individuals in the council in spite of the sensitisation of the public proper waste disposal and the dangers of a dirty environment. (NAN)
