Ilorin – Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara on Wednesday promised to renovate the dilapidated Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Sports Complex in Ilorin to attain international standard.
Gov. Ahmed, while on an unscheduled visit to the dilapidated edifice, said “we want to make it be of international standard so that our athletes can train properly to bring us medals’’.
He said he was checking on the facility as part of a check on facilities available for sporting activities, especially the Indoor Sports Hall.
“We are well aware that the administration in the last dispensation fixed the stadium’s main bowl to an international level.
“Now, we have come to see it for first-hand information, in order to renovate it within the shortest possible period,’’ the governor said.
He said he believes in the “catch-them-young’’ idea, and there is the need to promote an avenue to develop the youth.
Gov. Ahmed also said he was expecting the state’s contingent to the upcoming National Youth Games (NYG) to do the state proud.
He added that he would give the contingent all necessary supports to excel at the Games.
