ABUJA – The Police on Tuesday arraigned a driver, Okai Paul, before a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for reckless driving and driving without a driver’s licence.
The Police prosecutor, Insp. Jeremiah Elijah, told the court that Okai Paul drove recklessly along the Umaru Musa Yar’dua way in a Volkswagen Golf with reg. No. LFA 736 AE.
He said that the accused eventually hit one stationary Jincheng motorcycle belonging to one Ben Yakubu which was parked beside the road by the Voice of Nigeria U-turn, Lugbe, Abuja.
According to him, the accident caused serious injuries to the cyclist and also damaged the motorcycle. [eap_ad_1] The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 28(1) CAP 548 and 7(1) CAP 548 of the Road Traffic Act.
The accused pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations.
The magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri, admitted the accused to a bail of N20, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Eri said that the sureties must have a means of identification and swear the affidavit of means and must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He later adjourned the case to Sept. 23 for further hearing. (NAN)
