Damaturu – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe said it had fully established its presence in liberated communities in the state to encourage internally displaced persons to return home.
Dr Muhammad Fari, Commandant of the corps in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Damaturu that his men established their presence after visiting the communities and assessing the situation on ground.
“The NSCDC had already deployed staff to the liberated local government areas of Gujba, Gulani and Yunusari to enhance the return of civil authority in the areas.
“We have a huge responsibility of ensuring the attainment of the mandate of this administration of building peaceful and secured communities across the country”, he said.
The commandant however said not much would be achieved in terms of security without community participation.
“Community participation has become an integral part of the fight against crime; it is a collective responsibility on security forces and the civil society to defeat insecurity in our societies.
“Everyone has a role to play, from surveillance to providing useful information, for us to achieve enduring peace and security in our communities” he said.
Fari said the command had also toured the 17 local government areas in the state, to sensitize communities on their expected roles towards entrenching a lasting peace in the state.
“I personally led the tour in which we deliberated with the council chairmen, traditional, opinion and religious leaders, on various aspects of contribution to peace and security.
“We also had useful deliberations with sister security agencies, including the Army, Police, Immigration, Customs and Vigilante groups, to identify areas of cooperation and synergy to achieve the desired goals,” he said.
NAN reports that Fari, formerly the NSCDC Commandant in Jigawa, was posted to Yobe about two months ago (NAN)
