LAGOS – The Area E Commander in Festac Town, ACP Dan Okoro, on Saturday advised Nigerians to embrace ‘Community Policing’ to secure their environment.
Okoro gave the advice in Lagos during the quarterly general meeting and election of the Festac Town Residents Association.
He said that the obligation of ensuring that a community was safe was the business of everyone and not just the police. [eap_ad_1] According to him, community policing involves a resident being conscious of what is happening around his environment and reporting abnormalities to the police.
He urged landlords to be mindful of their tenants and tenants to be mindful of their landlords to check wrong doings.
”With that, you are not doing any good just to the police, but to yourself.
”If you notice that the mechanic in your area is in the habit of dismantling car tanks and fixing another, please report to the police, because it might be an avenue of installing bombs in a car.
”When your guard, cook or messenger is working more than expected, watch it, he might be an agent of insecurity.
”The security of this country has changed, be very mindful and careful of your children, siblings, friends and neighbours,” the ACP said.
He said that the residents of Festac Town were at advantage with the office of the Area Commander situated in the town.
According to him, there was high rate of criminal acts being perpetrated in Festac when he assumed office.
Okoro said that many young persons were flooding the town to commit crimes, but he took it upon himself to ensure that such crimes were curbed.
He said that with these efforts, the command had received awards from the Presidency and countries in West Africa.
”The Nigerian Police is tremendously working in Festac and residents in this area should understand what the police is doing,” the ACP said. (NAN)
