ILORIN – The Senior Special Assistant to Kwara Governor on Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Saka Babatunde, on Friday reiterated the government commitment in supporting youths development programmes in the state.
Babatunde renewed the state government commitment while receiving members of the 2014 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara chapter, Media Games Committee in his office in Ilorin.
He said that the state government resolve followed the internationally accepted role of youths in the sustainable development of any society.
According to the governor’s aide, the state government is doing everything within its resources to engage the youths meaningfully in the socio-economic transformation of the state.
He said that the government identified sports as a veritable tool for the empowerment and skilful development of the youths.
The aide also pledged his moral and financial support to SWAN toward the successful hosting of a befitting media games.
Babatunde said that the development of the youths falls under his purview as the governor’s senior aide on youth empowerment.
He also donated N50,000 as his personal support to SWAN’s games.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi, who was represented by Mr Bunmi Adedoyin, said that 369 journalists and media workers would participate in nine sports during the games scheduled to hold between Sept. 16 and18.
The chairman also appealed to other well meaning citizens of the state, corporate organisations and government to assist SWAN in achieving the aims of the games. (NAN)
