Dikko Radda, National Welfare Secretary, All Progressives Alliance, has stated that the Northern Elders Council (NEC) should be ashamed of itself for publicly commended President Jonathan for his effort in addressing the insecurity in northern part of the country
Radda who said this in a chat with Leadership observed that the federal government has not done enough to tackle the insurgency in the north eastern part of the country. [eap_ad_1] Reacting to a statement by NEC, led by a former presidential adviser to former President Shehu Shagari, Tanko Yakassai, on Thursday which lauded President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration’s efforts at tackling the security challenges occasioned by the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect in some parts of the north, Radda said it is unfortunate that the views of the elders are far from the realities on ground.
He said, “When villages, communities and towns are being seized by the insurgents, we are surprised that the group of elders is commending the president for tackling the insurgents. It is very sad because daily, women and children are being killed by the insurgents. This is the reality on ground.”
He said if the government was serious with ending the Boko Haram war, it would deploy troops and provide equipment to the armed forces with which to fight the insurgency.
