ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the early hours of Thursday intercepted and neutralised a male suicide bomber at the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, said that the terrorist at about 6.30am on Thursday attempted to infiltrate through the troops forward defences at Jidari Polo general area of the state capital.
Usman stated that the suicide bomber came in through Alidawari village about 4 kilometres ahead of Jidari strapped with heavy Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) vest.
He, however, said that the vigilant troops on sighting him laid in wait for the intruder when vehemently refused to stop despite several warnings and challenges.
“A marksman neutralised the suicide bomber,” he noted.
The Army spokesman also disclosed that a combined team of Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) safely detonated the IED laden vest on the suicide bomber.
