Bakori – The Old Students Association of Federal Government Girls College Bakori in Katsina State, has instituted awards and foreign scholarships with the aim of encouraging discipline and moral uprightness among
students.
The Association’s President, Hajiya Halima Audi, announced this on Sunday after expressing displeasure over the moral decadence among students of the college.
She emphasised the need for synergy among parents, teachers and the host community in instilling moral discipline in the future leaders.
She identified a well-behaved student, Amina Bello, and pledged to sponsor her school education as a way of encouraging her colleagues to imbibe good moral values.
Audi also expressed the Association’s commitment to offer foreign scholarship to five disciplined students annually and urged them to study hard and be morally upright.
She assured the students that the Association would work relentlessly to improve the infrastructure in the school in collaboration with relevant government agencies,
Non-Governmental Organisations(NGOs) and other public-spirited individuals.
The leader underscored the importance of entrepreneurship training and physical and health education in view of the present challenges in the country.
A Professor of Medicine at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ai’sha Indo Mamman, reminded the students of the need to keep up the good name of college being lucky to be part of an institution that produced reputable and distinguished persons in all walks of life.
Mamman, who graduated from the school in 1982, said Bakori old students had become role models among unity schools, urging the students to respect their teachers, parents and senior colleagues.
A lawyer, Mrs Olly Ime-Ofuk, who also graduated from the school in 1986, advised students to shun bad habits so as to succeed in their academic endeavours.
The Principal of the school, Hajiya Binta Ganguwa-Hassan, stressed the need for parents and guardians to pay their wards’ school fees when due.
She urged the Association to help to improve school infrastructure and pledged to take measures that would instill discipline in the students.
