A group called the Concerned Stakeholders Group of Football Players in Nigeria and Diaspora on Tuesday called for the unification of different factions currently affecting the growth of the sport.
The Chairman of the group, Clement Temile, made the call when he addressed newsmen at the secretariat of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Temile identified the factional groups to include: National Association of Nigeria Footballers (NANF) and Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (APFON), which according to him, did not see ‘eye-to-eye’ on pressing issues. “The power tussle has gone on for too long that it has become unhealthy for ex-players who are on the verge to almost begging for crumbs to eat,’’ he said.
Temile said that the need to settle the dispute between the seeming leaders of the two bodies was what led to the birth of the group.
“We have been working tirelessly and silently for too long without public awareness that the time for reconciliation for the general interest of football players in Nigeria is now.
“Therefore, I appeal to the two parties to put aside their differences, especially for the benefit of past, current and upcoming football players,’’ he said. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
