ABUJA – The Nigeria football Federation (NFF)has invited 30 players to the camp of the national senior women’s football team, Super Falcons, ahead of the Africa Women Championship (AWC) in Namibia.
A statement from the team Media officer, Gracious Akujobi, on Tuesday in Abuja, quoted the team’s Administrator, Ruth David, as saying the players were expected to report on Sept. 14.
The players and coaches are expected to report to Serob Hotel on Sunday, Sept. 14 with their training kits and travelling documents.
“Letters of invitation have been sent to the various clubs already for the release of the invited players.
“So, we urge the clubs to release the players as the competition is very important to the country,’’ David was quoted as saying.
The list of the players had five goalkeepers, nine defenders, 11 midfielders and five attackers.
The goalkeepers are Ibubeleye Whyte (Rivers Angels), Precious Dede (Ibom Queens), Charity John (Rivers Angels), Juliet Obi (State House FC), Ohieriaku Christy (Oshogbo Queens).
The defenders include Blessing Edoho (Pelican Stars), Ebere Ngozi (Rivers Angels), Mariam Ibrahim (Nasarawa Amazons), Josephine Chukwunonye (Rivers Angels), Onome Ebi (FK Minsk, Belarus) and Osinachi Ohale (Houston Dash,USA).
The other defenders are Ugochi Njoku (Rivers Angels), Gloria Ofoegbu (Rivers Angels) and Sarah Nnodim (Delta Queens).
The invited midfielders include Ngozi Okobi (Delta Queens), Onyinyechi Ohadugha (Rivers Angels), Chiwendu Ihezue (Pelican Stars), Stella Mbachu (Rivers Angels), Asisat Oshoala (Rivers Angels) and Cecilia Nku (Rivers Angels). The invited attackers are Desire Oparanozie (En Avent De Guingamp, France), Francisca Ordega (Pitea IFF, Sweden), Esther Sunday (FK Minsk, Belarus), Uchechi Sunday (Rivers Angels), Pepetua Nkwocha (Sunana SK, Sweden).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2014 AWC is scheduled to hold in Namibia from Oct. 11 to Oct. 25.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have already been drawn in Group A with host Namibia, together with Zambia and Cote D’Ivoire.
The first three teams at the AWC would represent Africa at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada. (NAN)
