LAGOS – The Head Coach of the Lagos State Athletics Grassroots Sports, Uremu Adu,on Wednesday said that the state had discovered a number of budding talents that would be outstanding as Blessing Okagbare.
Okagbare won two gold medals in sprinting at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Adu told NAN in Lagos the state discovered the talents through its grassroots programme.
He said that the programmes targeted talents in secondary schools.
The coach said that the body organised regular competitions to assess the skills and performances of discovered talents.
“I can categorically say that we have an effective grassroots programme that is well supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Sports.[eap_ad_2]
“I believe we will produce the future Okagbare because we already have young talents that can fit into her shoes,’’ he said.
On preparations for the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF), Adu told NAN that the state’s athletes were in camp for preparations.
Adu said that technical officials would seize the opportunity of the open camping to check the fitness level of the athletes before they would be invited for the last phase of camping.
“Our preparations for the festival is in top gear; the athletes are in camp for the technical officials to evaluate them before the final phase of camping,’’ the coach said. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
