Shortlisted candidates still under verification in Bayelsa — Official

Yenagoa  –   The verification for those willing to participate in N-Power, a Federal Government social security programme, is ongoing in Bayelsa, Mr Christian Okorie, a staff of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa, said.

Okorie told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa on Wednesday that
he was saddled with the task of collecting candidate’s acknowledgement letters and
verification had so far been smooth and orderly.

He said “there are stages in the process which include verification, confirmation, acknowledgment and posting according to what the candidates applied for in various fields.

“The candidates are responding to the exercise; we have verified and collected a huge number of acknowledgement letters, but we will reveal the number after compilation.

Some of the programme’s beneficiaries acknowledged that N-power was a welcome development by the Federal Government to curb unemployment in the country.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Godwin Goodluck, who expressed happiness for being shortlisted, urged Federal Government to make it permanent instead of the envisaged two-year duration.

“The programme is for two years but I am still happy because I was without job but now I can say bye to joblessness.

“It will help me a lot, I have family and with the stipend of N30,000 monthly, I can take care of my family.’’

Another beneficiary, Pius Ben, a graduate of Computer Science from Niger Delta University, Bayelsa, said he had concluded verification and awaiting final placement.

He said: “the programme is a step in the right direction, at least over 1,000 people will
benefit from it in Bayelsa.

“You can imagine what it means to engage such a number of people. It is an employment generating programme which should be appreciated and encouraged.
