Ekiti.Govt to partner with councils on talent discovery- Commissioner

Ado-Ekiti  –  The Ekiti State Ministry of Information, Youth and Sports, has promised to partner with the 16 local government areas in the state to organise sports competitions for the discovering of talents in 2017.

Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, the Commissioner in charge of the ministry, made the promise would in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.

‎“One of the plans of the Ministry of Information, Youth and Sports in 2017 is to partner with all the 16 local government in order to work together to promote sports at the grassroots.

” ‎A committee will be set up which will focus more on organising sports competitions in Table tennis, Football, Handball, Basketball among others.

“Also in 2017, we are planning to set up female soccer competitions‎ where female footballers will be given the opportunity to play good football and talents will be discovered.

“We want to introduce this game because other states of the federation are already participating in the competition, therefore, Ekiti state should not be left out,” he said.

He said that the ministry would provide new measures and facilities to boost the standard of sports in realisation of the priority of its ministry.

Ogunsuyi promised that some of the obsolete facilities at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium would be changed while some would be repaired.

The commissioner said the state pavilion would also be repositioned to accommodate indoor games and other outdoor games such as Basketball, Handball among others.

He further told NAN that the ministry would organise various sports in tertiary institutions to further create more avenues for the discovery of talents.

He assured football fans, especially supporters of Ekiti United FC of ‎better results from the management of the club as well as better and general improvement in sports in 2017.
