Bayelsa working hard to check Ebola Virus – Health Commissioner

YENAGOA – The Bayelsa State Government said on Thursday it was working hard to ensure that it controlled the spread of the Ebola Virus in its domain.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ayibatonye Owei, said this in Yenagoa at the closing of a two-day training programme with the theme: `Training of Trainers on Ebola Virus Disease`.

The Commissioner, who is also the Chairman, Bayelsa Committee Task Force on Ebola, said the training was part of the state’s readiness to check the spread of the diosease

“This is what we call `T.O.T` – the Trainer of the Trainer – part of the national strategy on the management and action plan on the Ebola Virus.

“It’s a collaboration between the Bayelsa State Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Health and Centre for Disease Control in Nigeria.

“They sent their health personnel to train on how to manage cases of the Ebola Virus. [eap_ad_2] “My advice is that the knowledge that has been given to caregivers should be utilised for the benefit of Bayelsa.

“It is beneficial to the health personnel because as you know, many of those who have been infected are the caregivers. So, the knowledge will also empower them to be able to protect themselves.“

Owei stated that the training was part of a national strategy for action plan on the disease.

He said that the participants for the training were selected from various institutions in the state including the state Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Joint Task Force (JTF).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 70 health workers participated in the training.

NAN recalls that 103 surveillance and two quarantine centres have been established by the Bayelsa government. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
