Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The President-elect of Gambia, Mr Adama Barrow has declared that the tenure of President Yahya Jammeh is officially over.
Writing on his twitter handle @adama_barrow on Thursday, Barrow said, “My dearest Gambians, the Presidency of Yahya Jammeh is officially over. The new era of Gambia is here at last. I would like to inform you that the inauguration ceremony is going to take place at the Gambian Embassy in Dakar, Senegal.
Sundiata Post recalls that ECOWAS heads of state have set up a committee headed by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on President Jammeh to quit office at midnight of Wednesday (January 18) when his tenure expired.
However, rather than handing over, the Gambian parliament on Wednesday extended Jammeh’s tenure by three months, citing constitutional provisions.
