LAGOS – A security expert, Mr Frank Odita, has called on the Federal Government to develop intelligence and information gathering strategies to enable it access the strength and weaknesses of terrorists.
He made the call on Tuesday in Lagos in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that terrorism had become a national threat that required the development of strategies to contain its spread. “Government should break through their ranks and file and be interested in making friends with them to know their sources of funding, the route they used in acquiring ammunitions and communications.
“Government should also be interested in making friends with the inhabitants of the areas where the terrorists reside in order to get information from them,” he said.
Odita also harped on the need for the government to provide adequate weapons and other logistics to boost the morale of its troops.
“Our government should make adequate provision for our military in terms of weapons and adequate health care for those who sustained injuries in the cause of their duty.
“Government should also provide adequate welfare packages to the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the battle to curtail the insurgents,’’ he said.
He advised the government to be cautious of insider threat, adding that some personnel of the armed forces should not be allowed to access sensitive information. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
