Abuja – A House of Representatives member, Mr Johnson Agbonayinma (PDP-Edo), said Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff’s confirmation as Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Chairman would provide formidable opposition in the country.
Agbonayima said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday shortly after the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, affirmed the former governor of Borno as the authentic chairman of the party.
The court set aside the judgment of Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, which recognised former governor of Kaduna state, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, as the leader of the party.
Sheriff and Makarfi lead separate factions of the PDP, Nigeria’s major opposition party.
Agbonayinma urged all factions to unite to move the party forward and provide a formidable opposition in the country.
“We have to come together as one PDP; we must put everything behind and rally support for Sheriff towards providing dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
“It is a time to become more constructive because I believe that something good can come out of Nigeria.
“At this point, there is no winner and no loser; all we need to do now is to ensure that we provide a formidable opposition.
“Sheriff stood by the law and returned the party to the people and that is why I stand by him.
“Let the party be returned to the people so they can feel the impact of democracy,” he said.
