ABUJA – The League Management Company (LMC) said on Tuesday that the 2013/2014 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season would now end on Nov. 9 as against the initial Nov. 23.
Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LMC, said this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“We have to come backwards to Nov. 9 because of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Nov. 23
“All the competition must finish before then, so we have to reschedule our matches to finish by Nov. 9.
“Don’t forget that we must make submission by Nov. 30 for our representation in CAF competitions, that is the last day so we have to finish the league by Nov. 9,’’ Abubakar said.
He, however, said that resumption of league action after a two-week boycott by the referees had brought a tight schedule for the clubs as well as the LMC.
Abubakar added that the boycott had given players the opportunity to rest, stressing that “we are going to have tough time organising the matches and going forward. [eap_ad_1] “As it is now, we have to play midweek and weekends for four weeks and we have to conclude 11 matches between now and the end of October.
“ So, it is going to be hectic and tight for us and that is a big challenge.’’
On the salary arrears being owed players of some NPFL clubs, Abubakar said that action would be taken immediately if the LMC received any official complaint.
According to him, if we have information from any player or any group of players, then we will set in and take action on it, but if we don’t have any information there is nothing we can do.
“We assume that everything is going on fine, they have to make a complaint first before we can take action.’’
He urged fans to come out enmass to support their clubs, noting that clubs that regularly pay their players would get good football and results as reward. (NAN)
