Kano – The Police in Kano have arrested two suspected persons who allegedly specialise in kidnapping children.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Magaji Majiya, told newsmen on Monday in Kano that the suspects, a male and a female, were apprehended on Jan. 30, in Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.
Majiya said they were arrested by a special team of detectives following a complaint by one Ibrahim Sani who reported that his child was kidnapped.
He said the female suspect, one Hafsat Auwal of Tsamiyar Boka Quarters, Hotoro, went to Sani’s residence on the pretense to buy clothing materials from his wife.
He said the suspect allegedly tricked Sani’s wife by asking that her two male children go with her to know the suspect’s house.
“The suspect allegedly discharged one of the two children and kidnapped the other one called Sadiq Mustapha,’’ the PPRO said.
He said the suspect later took the kidnapped boy to her master, one Abubakar Umar, of Meyere Village in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Majiya further said that Umar later called the complainant on telephone and demanded N1 million ransom for the boy.
He said a team of investigators from the command, on receiving the complaints, tracked the two suspects, arrested them and rescued the victim.
The PPRO said the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
He urged parents to be vigilant about the movement of their children.
Majiya assured that the command would continue to partner with stakeholders with a view to curbing the ugly trend in the state.
