The Plateau State Government has dispelled rumours of impending attack on the State.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Dan Manjang, the government described as malicious a statement being circulated in social media to the effect that some people or group are planning to unleash mayhem on the State.
The statement was made available to Sundiata Post in Jos on Friday.
“The attention of the Plateau State Government, has been drawn to an inciting statement been circulated in the Social Media aimed at instilling fear and tension in the State.
“Furthermore, is a conversation purported to be a dialogue between a Muslim man and a Christian lady warning her of an impending Jihad and chaos in the State.
“The State Government wants to categorically state that the said inciting materials were circulated in 2008. It has nothing to do with the current realities in the State.
“The peaceful coexistence between all ethnic, religious and all the groupings that make up the State have been gained.
“Consequently, the Plateau State Government hereby warns mischief makers to desist from circulating inciting materials of any nature by any other means. Failure to adhere to this warning amounts to an affront and testing the will of the State, and will be met with punitive measures when caught,” it read.
The State Government, therefore, called on all law-abiding citizens of the State to disregard such inciting statements, and go about their normal activities freely.
It further assured that the security apparatus have been directed to be on alert while at the same time urging all law abiding citizens to report suspicious characters and criminal elements within them.
