Bus conductor chops off passenger’s ear over fare

LAGOS – A 32-year-old bus conductor, Taiye Ajayi, was on Wednesday charged with biting off the ear of a passenger at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Ajayi, whose address is unknown, is being tried for unlawfully inflicting wounds.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Oluwafemi Adeleye told the court that the accused bit off the ear of one Kabiru Olugbemi with his teeth for allegedly refusing to pay his fare.

Adeleye said the accused committed the offence at Micom Bus Stop, Egbeda, a Lagos suburb, on Aug. 23 at about 8.30 p.m.[eap_ad_2]

“The passenger boarded a bus from Oshodi to Egbeda and informed the conductor about the little money he had on him for the fare.

“The accused demanded for the balance of the fare when he got the bus stop and thereafter a fight ensued.

“In the process, the accused bit off Kabiru’s ear,’’ he said.

Adeleye said the offence contravened Section 244 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused may be sentenced to three years imprisonment on conviction.

The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the offence.

The Magistrate, Mr P.E. Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to Oct. 6 for trial. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
