Governor Adams Oshiomhole has praised retired Brigadier General Samuel Ogbemudia (rtd) for his contributions to the development of defunct Mid-West State in all areas of human endeavours.
Oshiomhole gave the commendation in Benin on Wednesday at a ceremony to mark the 82nd birthday of Ogbemudia, a former military governor of Mid-Western State.
The state was later renamed Bendel before it was split into Edo and Delta. NAN reports that the elder statesman’s statue was unveiled at the event held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Oshiomhole said Ogbemudia stood for everything a father could stand for in catering for his children, and had also justified the role of a good father in all ways.
The Edo governor said Ogbemudia made the contributions out of “conviction and not out of convenience”. [eap_ad_1] He noted that in life, people might forget the actions they took while serving humanity, but those affected by their actions don’t forget such actions, whether negative or positive.
He said erecting the statue at the stadium is Edo government’s small token or formal recognition of Ogbemudia’s contributions to the development of the state.
He assured the people that before the end of the his administration, the state would give Ogbemudia more recognitions.
In his address, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta said his state would immortalise the former governor who, he said, did the defunct Bendel State proud.
Uduaghan, represented by Dr Festus Okubor, Chief of Staff of Delta state said they would wait and see what Edo would do before deciding on its line of action.
“We would want to surpass Edo in our own way of saying thank you to a father who did us proud as military governor of Bendel,” he said.
Ogbemudia thanked the governments for recognising his contributions to humanity.
