Sokoto – The Cement Company Of Northern Nigeria (CCNN), on Thursday donated assorted drugs worth over N4.5 million to six clinics in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The clinics are located in Wajeke, Arkilla, Kalambaina, Sabon Garin Alu, Bakin Kusu and Mobile Police Barrack.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the drugs included antibiotics, analgesics, blood tonic, anti-malarial, as well as equipment and laboratory consumables.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal commended the firm for the gesture, saying it would boost efficient healthcare delivery.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner of Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, said the drugs came in view of the meningitis epidemic in the state.
He said that although the meningitis outbreak had been contained, residents should promptly any resurgence.
The governor also admonished parents to ensure full immunisation for their children.
Tambuwal advised the people to desist from sleeping in overcrowded rooms, as well as ensure personal and environmental hygiene.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr Aminu Ibrahim, said the donation was part of the firm’s contribution to the health of its host communities.
Represented by Mr Yawale Ladan, Head of Human Resources Department, the Managing Director said,” the firm will continue to partner and complement the efforts of the state government.
”This is to help in providing adequate and functional health care services to the people.
” We recently provided scholarship grants to 30 indigenes of the state, and 10 each from Kebbi and Zamara States.”
Ibrahim called for proper utilisation of the drugs, saying,” we will continue to monitor utilisation so as to ensure fairness and accountability.”
The Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Ahmed Kalambaina and the District Head of Wajeke, Alhaji Mailato Gumbi, commended the firm for the gesture.
Also, the Director of Health in the area, Alhaji Muslim Gobir, promised to ensure judicious utilisation of the drugs.
